Hello! My wife and I recently bought our first house, and it’s on a lake! I’ve never owned a boat before, but I’m looking for a non-gas boat or kayak that me and my wife can use for fishing and recreation. The lake is very calm and gas-motors are not allowed. Most of the lake is around 5 feet deep but there are pockets around 20 feet deep. The lake is about 150 acres big. I’ve been told that the primary species in the lake are Crappie, Bass, and Brim.
Does anyone have a recommendation on a good 2-person fishing boat for us that’s good for larger people? We’d ideally like something that we can lift/carry and leave on the bank with paddles and maybe an electric trolling motor. We were thinking about a kayak or a John boat, but would something else maybe be better?

Jon boat with a trolling motor on it or a couple of pedal kayaks would be a great start. Realistically, it depends on your budget. If you let people know how much you’d be willing to spend we can help you out a little better!

Pair it with a trolling motor and large capacity deep cycle battery

Any of these will work:
Canoe or guide boat/rowing canoe —make sure to get a lake canoe with a partial keel — flat bottom canoes will be trickier to handle in wind on a lake) —16 and under is manageable by two easily
Jon boat or v hull row boat — anything 14 and under is manageable by two people
Inflatable kayak, sit on top or pedal kayak— traditional cockpit kayaks I’ve found are much more difficult to manage landing fish and at the end of a day trickier to get out of
For recreational use the Jon boat or v hull are going to be more comfortable than the other options
