30lb mono backing with 50lb braid and a 2ft 15lb flouro leader
Im trying 2-3oz of weight plus a chicken gizzard on a Carolina rig here at home for practice. The cast usually starts out good but before it hits the water I'll get a big backlash. Pick it out, reel it up, cast…repeat. Actually ended up breaking 2 rigs off today mid cast.
I try and stop the spool before I hit the water but like I said, the backlash usually happens before I get a chance.
Any ideas to improve and what I could change? Maybe higher weight with the rod im using? Should I be whipping more or lobbing to start? And I know the reel is waayy underspooled…I messed up getting to little braid but im ordering a 1200yd spool of maybe 40lb
