My dad’s friend got this from a someone that passed away. I was wondering if I could use this on my rod. (I’m kind of new to fishing)

I use that exact reel 4-5 days a week. Many people don’t like the button placement but it doesn’t bother me. I currently have mine on a Chinese rip off 7’ MH fast rod and use it for 1/2 oz to 2 oz lures. And I got mine in 1997 so those are basically indestructible if given the most minor care.

Abu ambassadeurs are good reels, but if it’s good for YOU depends. It’s a baitcaster which isn’t what I’d recommend at all for a beginner since there’s more of a learning curve, but it can be done. What rod are you thinking to pair with it, and what kind of fishing are you doing?
