This is what it looks like sometimes after I cast. It doesn’t seem to matter how far down into the spool I go to straighten it out. It keeps happening. I check every cast and this happens a good amount of times but not every time.

I’m wondering if I messed something up when I spooled it up in the first place or this just happens with baitcasters (new to them).

  1. what exactly is the issue? Are you talking about the line going through the line guide? If so, that line guide slides left and right when reeling in.

  2. Dont know if correct solution but I pull out more line against my drag, I do it for more line but I usually do it until my line and guide are lined up again.

For your bait caster, roughly center the level wind, push the button to cast, and cast.

When you cast the spool is (often) disconnected from the level wind (but not always*). So sometimes the level wind and where the line is on the spool won’t line up. It’s not a huge problem. The reel is working as designed.

*Reels like the Abu ambassador run the level wind when you cast, idk if there’s much advantage to it since it robs you of casting distance since casting energy drives the mechanism. The diawa “T-wing” fixes the problem a different way.

  4. Tie the line to something and walk out the line until you are to the reel arbor. It may line-up at that point. If not, cut it off the arbor, Aline the line guide to the center, rethread line, then with slight tension, reel the line back on. A bit of a PIA, but sometimes ya gotta start over to get things right.
