I fish every chance i can get, which winds up being a few times a month. I have always used spinning reels but wanted to try out a baitcaster as at least some folks swear by them and it appears a lot of folks more dedicated than i am use them all the time.. So i bought the pictured Abu Garcia max x2 baitcast combo. right now it looks like you can pick this up for 60 usd, when i got it, it was more like 100 usd. I've never liked it. It feels like a pool cue and casts (in my hands anyway) like one too. if i put a heavy lure on there (1/2 oz or more) i can get some distance, but it's supposed to be ok down to a quarter ounce. And because the rod is so rigid I don't really feel bites. My questions: did i just get the wrong set up? Or am i doing something wrong? The reviews for the rod seemed good. I did watch a bunch of videos too improve technique and practiced on the yard. I'm a little hesitant to spend more money if I'm going to wind up with the same experience. For what it's worth I fish mostly for bass (large or small mouth) in the northeast United States. So should i try something else? My favorite rods are st. croix (low end of their scale) med-lite fast action 6' or 7' both have daiwa spinning reels on them. Thanks for sticking with the long post. Oh yeah, i did manage to catch two wee perch on one cast with it.
