Just got my fishing rod last week (Okuma Fin Chaser X Series) and now I’ve been adding on to my gear. Now, I had a buddy who wanted to help me get exactly what I needed to catch fish, I really appreciated his help, however I want to do things my way. I want to see what works and what doesnt work for me. Sure, I’d probably have more success from the get go if I listened to my buddy, but I did enough research just so that I know what it is that I’m looking for but the rest I leave it up to me figuring things out myself. Will this lure work? Will this bait do the trick? Will this line help any better? What about this spot? How big of a hook should I use? How should I hook my bait? What kind of knot should I use? or how far should I cast? Etc etc. The point to me is to not just be a successful fisherman, but also have fun with it and learn along the way and just experimenting with everything, if I can’t figure it out myself, then I’d like to be able to ask. But so far, I’m happy with the decisions I’ve made and we’ll see where this awesome journey takes me, what mistakes will I make? what will I catch? how many friends can I make? Etc.
