Hi, I’m wondering how I should attach my chatterbait to my snap, what kind of snap do you use for your chatterbaits? I can’t attach mine and I’ve tried with split rings but it feels kind of silly. Do you use different leaders when fishing chatterbaits? I got a snap with my chatterbait when I bought it, but I removed it because it felt silly to use two snaps. Can you help me?

I’ve read many posts about chatterbaits and the best way to attach them. The large majority of posts claim that a snap swivel creates an unnatural retrieve and that the chatterbait should be tied directly to the line or leader. I watched a video showing both ways and I noticed a difference with the snap swivel. As a result I tie my chatterbait directly to my leader. If you have the time and patience you can try it both ways and see if there’s a difference in the number of hookups.
The original uses Fastach clips. I typically tie main line directly to it, no leader.
I’ve lost a few chatterbaits to pike so I use a wire leader now
I’m amazed you got the split ring on there like that
Any snap will do so long as its a strong one. I use small egg snaps

With my snap i could only come this far, then i couldnt get it thru the 2nd Home without breaking smth
If im running a leader for toothy fish i just snap it on there, I dont see any difference in action. If im bass fishing I’ll tie directly just to avoid so much hardware, but i dont think musky mind all that much.
