What is the point of this mechanism and also it it broken
This is an abu Garcia ambassaduer 4600ab with anti backlash system that I got from my uncle probably from the mid 80’s I have no idea what it does as nothing happens when I flip the switch

I have that reel. It is the anti backlash and it does work. You have to thread the line through it and flip it on. When on, it should be trying to swing upwards. I took mine off, since I am pretty well experienced. I will say, the reel is great once you remove all the extra doohickies.

Nice 4600 they are my favorite the ones with mag breaks are the best I have a few like yours they have a unique breaking system I’m not fond of but when tuned properly they do well
