Just get a medium-heavy power, fast-medium action carbon blank. Super versatile. I suggest using a 3000 reel with more than 12 pounds of drag.

I just got this exact rod and it feels pretty good. I haven’t caught anything on it yet though.

If you’re close to a bass pro they sell a “fish eagle” series rods for $75 that work awesome for really any type of fishing you want to do. I use a 9’6 MH for pier fishing either with bait or casting spoons.
