Is it ok if I put my weight on the bottom of my hook instead of on top?

  1. Absolutely, this is called a drop shot rig.

I personally prefer it because the hook doesn’t drag behind, and when you cast the weight pulls the hook rather than pushing it and potentially causing it to tangle around the hook in the air.

I use it when I’m fishing the bottom and have bells on the rod since it makes it more sensitive, the fish doesn’t have to move to the weight to get the rod tip to respond. It’s a little more direct

Edit: I’m secretly laughing at everyone asking for a better picture. The title literally describes what you’re asking about without an issue.

There are no rules to fishing. Half the fun I have is trying all different set ups that I have no idea if they are “proper” or not.
