My father was an avid fisherman, I grew up in Rhode Island and fished fresh and saltwater with my dad from boats, the shore and learned to fly fish as well. I enjoyed it but I did it with my father mainly as a way to spend time with him. I moved out of state in 2001 and Dad passed away in 2010. I may have fished with him once or twice between 2001 and 2010 but its likely I have not fished in almost 25 years. Yesterday I went with some friends to Sore Thumb on Long Island, NY's south shore and fished. I had my wife and son with me and with some inexpensive gear from Dicks (A Tsunami Barrier II for me and a Daiwa Samurai X2 for my son/wife) we went fishing. My wife was not into it but was content to relax on the beach and talk to the other wives who went with us. My son fished for a bit and then ran off with the other kids, but I fished for most of the day. I enjoyed the hell out of it. I caught 6 fluke, and a sea robin. 1 of the fluke was probably a keeper, but I threw him back. I setup with a fish finder rig with 1oz weights and was using Gulp camo sandworms as bait for most of the day, at one point I used pieces of hotdog which I caught one of the fluke and the sea robin on.
