Would 8lb line work for where I plan on fishing at?
I plan on catching a variety of fish at this lake so would 8lbs be enough for the bass and catfish?

Plenty for all of those, I’d just try to figure out how big the channels get around you. Around me they peak at like 10-15lb

8lb line is what I’ve been using with very similar fish populations around me in Texas, it’s been a blast and haven’t had an issue with line weight. Oh boy tho if you get your hands on a pumpkin seed take some photos, I got a baby one and they’re something else.

Should be sufficient for those species, my only concern would be for the pickerel and its teeth. And also the size of the catfish but just keep your drag loose enough for your line and adjust when needed. If a pickerel is hooked it will most likely break you off with that line.

Yes you should be fine. Only thing that could give you trouble would be a big blue cat but even those I’ve caught 15+ pounders on 8 lb line just have to have your drag set right and let them run.

You would need 50 lb braid for bluegills but aside from those you should be good
