Inshore saltwater in Hawaii. Been fishing for years but never done too much catching. Small jacks, a big striper, bass etc.. I’ve been surfing for 40 also but a bad knee has kept me out of the water for 2 months. Surgery time.

Anyhow, to give myself another mental outlet I’ve been fishing like mad. (And this too long post is now release therapy at this point also!! But there a point so hang in there!!)

I talked myself ( ChatGPT did actually) into getting this beautiful‘25 shimano twin power FD c5000xg… JDM, and it’s a ridiculously giant upgrade for me. I really wanted something I’d keep forever. I take care of the Junk gear I have.

I got the fishing bug again while in SF striper fishing and so I ended up getting an Okuma rockaway 9’6 MH for SF and brought it to Hawaii… the rod feels a touch big for this compact 4000/5000 but man it’s all still so light… well, it was for the 10 casts I whipped tonight at least…

Into the trade wind, line snapped or knot slipped at the lure , I’m knot sure which …’twas a 1.25 nomad riptide lure, which is on the light side for the rod but in range and a sweet spot for the reel…

I really think the knot failed due to the thin line.. and a poor choice in knot selection.

The JDM shop only had 1.5pe /30 lb X8 upgraded pentagram braid. It’s ridiculously thin but I fish into the tradewinds often , so I thought it’d help my cause with casting ..ChatGPT said it’d work well .. it was sketchy tying it the 25 mono backing and took me awhile to feel good enough with my work to spool up completely – FG wasn’t a fit, Alberto, no … double uni sat well so I went with it.

Tonight I was just testing the setup and tied the braid direct to 50lb bearing quick swivel and set that to my favorite 105 nomad 1.25 oz riptide bait … just to see how it all felt really but stupidly I used an improved clinch , without thinking…

Again casting into stiff trades at about 20 mph w waves but to green channels … it felt great maybe the riptide was a touch light into the wind too actually… 2 oz about perfect. 10 cast and SNAP!!! the lure went flying … I’m guessing it was just the knot… I don’t think I had a wind knot on the reel already … maybe…

Point is, what’s the best knot to use on this PE 1.5?

Should I just take it off?

It feels beyond my level … but I guess just bc I listen to my beloved lure :/

Thx
