I think the idea with these is you want to hide the hook within the worm so it’s barely or not at all visible. Fish will still hook on it since it’s soft. Pull up on the worm and then tuck it back into the worm. This way it is ‘weedless’.

You can fish it like this fine, but it won’t be weedless. You want to tuck the tip of the hook back into the worm, which prevents it from catching on stuff.
