Just picked up for $160 ($199 with 30% off) for the reel $125 for the rod. How’d I do? Any tips for what line to spool? Use mono backing? I was thinking power pro slick V2 50#?

I wouldn’t use 50# on that, I’d think 20-25# would be more like it. I have a 300hg and I use 40# in the salt with that.

If you have a tackle shop close by, have them do it. The machine gets the line on so much tighter .

Nice pick up! What you spool it with depends on what you’re targeting. I’ve got my combo (7’1” st croix black bass casting rod w/ daiwa tatula 100) setup for top water bass. I’m running 20lb super slick v2 braid without backing paired with a 15lb Seaguar floro leader. Works great for me, very easy to cast and no backlashing other than when it’s due to user error… just landed a 3lb largie this weekend on it!

50lb is insane. 20lb is far more appropriate.
