Hi all,
Not so experienced fisher here. I'm going on a fishing trip next week and will spend 3 days fishing from a boat trying to catch cod. I'll be jigging using ~250 gr. pilkers. Depth will be between 20 and 50 meters.
I definitely need a suitable rod as the ones I currently have are not strong enough.
I currently do have two spinning wheels:
- Jubilee Patriot JB 4000
- Bauxit 5000 X
Both probably not the best quality but they work.
ChatGPT and various sites recommend going for a multiplier reel. Never used one before.
So, this leaves me with the following options:
- Buy a rod and use one of the spinning wheels above (likely the 5000?)
- Buy a rod and better spinning wheel (perhaps the Penn Fierce Boat Combo 7ft 200-600g?)
- Buy a rod and multiplier reel (perhaps the Fladen Combo Fission Blue Boat 30 180cm 30-40Lbs?)
My budget is max. $/€200. Probably my preference would be to go for a rod/multiplier reel combination so I can try out a multiplier reel. I can always use one of the spinning wheels (on that rod), right?
I fish very occasionally, so no need for professional gear, but it should also not break while I'm on the water and far away from any shop ;-).
Thanks!
