I’ve made about a thousand posts asking which rod or reel or this or that would be better. I finally made my decision and landed on this. I’ve had the reel now for about 5 days and was using a friends rod until I got mine. The rod just came in the mail about 15 minutes ago and just put the reel on it. Shimano Curado 150m (151HGM) 7.4 gear ratio on a 7’ Medium Heavy Fast action 2025 Daiwa Tatula Bass cork rod. This will be my universal/go-to setup for the rest of the year and beginning of next year until I get more technique specific setups.

If “universal” was the criteria, a baitcaster combo was never the answer.
