Looking to get into fishing, it’s a skill I figure I should have if I ever go on extended hikes or some such. I bought the oldest looking rod I could find at my local thrift store so it could continue to serve new people instead of wasting away.

I just uh, how do I get the line out of there and all set up? 😅

I’m going to clean it up too, just didn’t think to do so before taking the photos is all.

  1. pineapplesandsand on

I believe the top of this reel comes off youre gonna wanna open it up and throw out the line no way its gonna catch anything more than a few oz before breaking. 2nd thing id do is buy a new reel. These top covered reels are notorious for knots and all sorts of problems but if you’re dead set on using this just take the line out like i said check and see if it has any info on it like what test it takes and how much if there isnt any info id bring it in to a shop to get new line put on and id ask the oldest looking guy for help

  2. Go to Walmart and buy a cheap Zebco. Learning to fish on that old thing is setting yourself up for frustration.

  3. Take the line and place it through the cap from outside to inside.

Loop knot around the reel, and after its set, clip in the cap. Place tenstion on the wire and reel in wire until satisfied.
