Lost 3 perches in a row on it, therefore the question

Not much you can do, but the bait should be tucked forward towards the weight as much as possible.

You can try backing it off and lining the hook up along side the body to see where it should pop out so that the lips of the bait are smooched up to the weight. It also might help to come out at an angle so that you expose more hook instead of straight through the body, but typically straight through the body is ideal.

I find Perch will give bait a little bite or tug but not fully take it, so I let them grab it a bit and then set the hook with a quick little flick. If you pull right away like you’re hooking a bass, you may just end up pulling it out of their mouth entirely. Imagine you’re flicking a mosquito off your hand, just a quick flick.
