Hi I recently tried top water fishing for the first time and I got pikes striking it left and right but once I got a decently sized pike on I lost it because what seems to be the fluorocarbon carbon leader slipped right out of the braid. I assume this was the case because all I was left with was a knot at the end of my braid.

so I went out and bought myself a wirelead but I think it's interfering with the popper as just lays on it side and drifts right as I reel in and I've not gotten a single strike on it in the same body of water.
the wire lead has a clip for the baits and I guess this is what's causing trouble?

and that takes me to my questions, how do I attach wireleads to popers and why did my knot slip, did I just not pull it down enough?

I used an albright knot, the lead was a 63 pound, I can't remember what the raid was but it's a third or forth of the thickness of the fluorocarbon.
