I am relatively new to fishing, and I bought a new rod a while ago with the idea of getting into crankbait fishing. I purchased a Falcon Lowrider LFS-73MH "Cranker" Spinning Rod (7"3, MH, Moderate action, 10-20lbs line, 3/8-3/4 oz. lures – link).

I realize now that most people seem to use baitcasters for crankbaits, so I am wondering if this was a mistake on my part. I am trying to figure out how to correctly set this up, and what I can use this rod for.

1) Am I actually going to have any success throwing crankbaits with this rod? And if so, what types of crankbaits would work with this (Deep Diving vs. Suqarebill vs. Lipless)? I was thinking that I may be able to use this for some spinnerbaits too.

2) I bought a Daiwa Regal LT 3000 size reel for this, and originally tried to spool it with 16lbs Seguar Red Label and had a lot of trouble getting the line on. The line got caught in the spool, and I had to take the reel apart to untangle it. I later read a few places that it is not recommended to spool a spinning reel up with straight fluoro. Should I be using braid and a leader instead, and what weights would be best? Is this reel big enough for this purpose?

Thanks in advance. I have been a lurker here for a while now but never posted until now. This subreddit has been so incredibly helpful to make sense of all the gear and terminology since I started fishing earlier this year. So, I wanted to share a quick thank you to everyone active in this community who has contributed to this wonderful knowledge base.
