Need some recommendations on gear. Currently I have a cheap spinning reel and rod combo we bought from BJs o. Clearance. It works but really cheap and one of the two we bought is already falling apart.

Most of my fishing is either from a kayak or a jetty in Nantucket Sound off of Cape Cod.

I bounce between using lures and bottom fishing with squid. With squid I usually have a 1oz weight on a swivel with a leader holding the bait off the bottom.

Target smaller stuff. I don't need to latch on to something that's going to take me on a ride.

Once or twice a year I might use a jig off of a party boat out of Hampton or Newburyport.

No real freshwater fishing except maybe the Merrimack River close to me but it is tidal here.

Budget is about 40-50 each for rod and reel. Are there lighter duty saltwater specific rigs out there in my price range?

Your options are fairly limited with that budget, at least with regards to a combo that can hold up to saltwater for more than a few months. The secondhand market will likely be your best bet, just make sure there isn’t major rust on whatever you check out. This is probably a great time of year with the kids going back to school and the busy season on the Cape winding down, I’ll bet you can find someone clearing out their summer gear they don’t want to bring back to Boston.
