I started fishing in May and it’s mostly been Scottish fisheries with maybe 15 hours spent across 4 trips on the river.

Each trip was met with frustration. The wind against me, snags everywhere, constantly getting tangled and losing tackle in trees, branches, rocks, trees, bushes, trees, scary cows, sheep, trees…

I was beginning to lose hope as the season came to a close and after catching over 110 rainbow trout, 5 blue trout and 3 perch (yes I had a spreadsheet) I am happy to report I’ve finally caught my first ever wild brown.

In fact, I caught two and I just want to show them off as I’m so chuffed with myself.

The first was caught on my last cast on that particular pool and the second was caught on the hang just as I was away to recast.

It was definitely that little spark to make me want to continue fishing rivers and not give up!
