My son outgrew his little Disney rod, so I bought him this Zebco 202. Immediately, it’s been twisting the line into oblivion and causing huge tangles. Just totally unusable. I thought it might have been caused by the pre-spooled line, so I changed the line out, but that accomplished nothing. Any advice?

did you tension it when you put it on, like hold the spool so it went on tight?

you could try tying on a swivel clipping it to something outside and letting out the line and reeling it all back in while keeping it tensioned to get the twists out.

Try soaking the line in warm water to get the memory out. These things are tricky with mono

  3. Has he been reeling it in while the drag is engaged while catching a fish?

If a fish is pulling drag and you’re reeling in at the same time it causes line twist which leads to all kinds of issues. I skipped this kind of reel for my son and jumped him right into an open faced spinning reel.
