Alright, I need some honest opinions from people who know fishing better than I do.
I’ve been using my grandpa’s old hand-me-down rod forever and finally decided to upgrade to something “real.” After hours of research, I settled on a KUYING Teton carbon spinning rod from Ali. It just arrived today and my fishing buddy took one look and laughed. He said carbon rods that cheap and ended up around $120 can’t possibly be any good and that I got scammed.
But it feels amazing? It’s super light, responsive, and honestly looks beautiful. I was so excited until he completely rained on my parade .
Now I’m second-guessing everything. Have any of you used a KUYING Teton or another carbon rod from Ali? Did I waste my money going budget instead of buying a big name brand? Or is my friend just being a gear snob? Would love some advice before I either cut the tags or send it back

My son uses a40 dollar ugly stick and it’s fine. If you like it it’s good enough
I’m not familiar with that specific brand but some stuff from Aliexpress in generall (Seasir, Kingdom, Kingkast), for the price you’re usually getting pretty decent gear.
If it wasn’t produced in China by a lesser known brand and sold directly to the consumer that rod probably would cost at least double the price.
It should be fine. With most things, you get what you pay for with fishing gear but you didn’t buy something really cheap so I’m sure it will be ok.
