i run my reel under hot water, and i let it sit for at least a day, but no matter what, this always seems to happen. clearly i’m doing something wrong

    Might need to spool it tighter using your hand on the line as you spool it up. Or it could be a symptom of putting too much line on. It doesn’t look like you have it overfilled but those are the two things that come to mind.

  2. What are you casting? If it’s too light, you will get loops. If you are jigging and reeling in on the drop, it can do that that too.
    What lb test is the line? Look on the reel. There should be a recommended line test. If the line is too heavy, it can do this as well.

  3. Switch to 20lb braid. Learn to tie FG knot for a 2ft flouro 8-10lb (depending) leader 👍 Never look back.

  4. I know exactly what you’re doing wrong. Do a quick YouTube search about how to properly spool a spinning reel.
