I fished a very challenging but rewarding tournament as a co-angler last weekend. We pre fished the day before and had luck on a variety of different baits, however, a cold front came through the following morning and the bite vanished in all of our previous spots. We were able to adjust as some heavy rain came through that afternoon and find a pretty decent bite on swim jigs on the perimeter of fallen timber. This put us into second place going into day two.

Unfortunately we couldn’t duplicate a similar bite on day 2 and the adjustments we made did not yield better results. We ended up placing sixth overall out of roughly 15 boats.

One of the reasons I love bass fishing so much is figuring out that puzzle and pattern. When you crack it, it is one of the most rewarding feelings out there. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case last weekend, but it sure does fire me up for the next one.

I enjoy the collaboration with anglers, journaling all the details from the day, and debriefing at the end to see where we can improve. But all in all, it’s just plan ol’ fun.
