Why is the peak of high tide lower than normal on a new moon?
Normally the tide where Im at will peak at around 2.4 feet but in a few days from now, it will peak at only 1.5 feet.
Shouldnt the tide be exceptionally higher? And would this be a good time to fish?

For further context, im on the gulf coast in the Florida panhandle. I know that on the east coast theres a much more extreme tidal change whereas on the gulf coast, tides only move 2-4ft max. Im also inside of a bay at the northern edge. So shouldn’t that mean tides would be way higher?

Not an expert, but looking this up, the moon happens to be near apogee on that day (when it’s furthest from the earth in it’s elliptical orbit). At this position, its pull on the tides is lessened.
