I am new to fishing and have been doing some surf casting. I’ve been fishing castle island trying to catch a striped bass but have only gotten two sharks. I usually go off the roundabout that you can walk down to. And I’ve been using mackerel as my main bait on a drops shot rig. I was curious if anyone had any tips on better it’s I could use there or maybe if there Is a better bait to use there?

You’re doing the right things but you are fishing in the ocean. Lots of creatures out there but using lures would decrease your chances of getting a shark and increase chances of a striper.
