Hey all, I'm a complete newbie and this is my first "real" rod and reel combo, pulled the trigger on the pictured gear, have spooled it with the braid. But now I'm confused as to how to attach the fluoro leader. Reddit and google all day to use an FG or Alberto knot which I'm practicing but do you then attach terminal tackle to the leader or a rig using a swivel? How does say a whiting rig with a running sinker stop without a swivel to stop it travelling all the way to the bait?

Yep, FG knot for days.
If you’re using an egg sinker/running sinker, yes, you do need a swivel. Ideally you’d also put a bead in between the weight and the swivel to reduce damage to your knot/line. A swivel also serves the purpose of reducing line twist when fish roll, something a lot of catfishermen need for example.
