I got a decent rod for a good price on fb marketplace. 2 of the eyelits have a little rust/slight cracks where they mount. Nothing serious but I'd like to reinforce these mounting points to prevent things from getting worse. Any ideas?

  1. I hate to say it but I’m not sure that could have been that good of deal with that going on. Ok, maybe if it’s a killer rod and you got it for $10. I’d get some epoxy and fill in the cracks in the resin. Maybe that will work? I’m not sure it’s worth investing much in trying to “fix” that rod.

Honestly I wouldn’t bother with 2 part epoxy unless you have a way to spin it while drying. I would use a UV resign and I’d probably try to sand the crack to remove debris and corrosion before applying.

Seeing as how it’s a single foot guide most of your support should be coming from the thread wrap and epoxy below the part that’s damaged so you’ll probably be ok for a while if you clean it up nicely and seal the crack to prevent further damage.
