I recently bought a inflatable padded board as my first boat. While exploring the lake I visit I noticed a lot of dead standing snags (I believe that's what they're called) in the water. A good few stop just a foot below the surface. I can't see the bottom. Are these good places to try and fish?

absolutely. some places will take old xmas trees and chuck them out with a weight so they give some cover for bass. bass love any and all cover. where i fish for largemouth it goes from riprap rock down to sand or sometimes grass and that’s where you catch them at is that transition.
Cover is cover. If I see a dead tree I fish a dead tree. 🙂
