Hey everyone, I’m new to fly fishing and trying to figure out the best setup to start with. I’m mainly looking to fish trout.
What would you recommend for a beginner-friendly rod/reel/line combo? Also, any must-have accessories I should pick up right away? I don’t want to overspend, but I’d rather invest in gear that will last me a while instead of upgrading too quickly.
Thoughts on the Orvis Encounter for this price point?

I would start with a 9’ 5wt in the $200-300 range. I got a Reddington Crosswater for 200. Line had shit memory and the reel is plastic but works good. Get some basic flies, fly box, a new line if the line that comes with it has bad memory. Nippers, net, vest or bag, hemostat pliers, some leaders in different sizes, a leader book possibly, some rolls of tippet in different sizes.
