I'm starting to think nothing really beats a worm, a piece of stinky meat or a dead fish

Those are lures, not baits. They work if you know where and how to use them.
Yes… they do work.
99% of my fish (bass, pan fish, pike, walleye, bowfin) are caught on artificial.
There’s only entire professional leagues of bass fisherman that use these frequently 🤷🏻♂️ Yeah. They work.
