I love my Diawa Aird X rods, for the price, they are awesome. What I don’t like is the length of the handle. I kayak fish and I find that the handle either gets caught in my life jacket, or it forces me to hold my arms out further, which is tiring over time.
I am thinking 2” or so off the back would be perfect. I don’t need fancy or replicate the exact look, I just want function.
I am thinking that I can use an abrasive cutoff wheel to cut the blank then buy a replacement butt and glue it on. Is there a way to salvage the original handle?
Has anyone done this? Recommendations on where to get the replacement handle? What glue to use?
I have 7 or 8 of these rods that I would modify once I figure it out.
Thx!

I broke an Aird-X handle when it flipped off an ATV. I ended up cutting off all the EVA foam grip and used cork rings to make a full cork grip. You could do the same or keep the split grip with an EVA foam replacement butt cap.
I lengthened my grip when I replaced mine.
