Came back again this year for another day of bass fishing at the Sameura Dam. This is one of the few places in Japan where catch and release is allowed for bass in Japan where they are considered an established species

Fish were very skittish in the morning but we found a productive pattern by noon using neko rigs and drop shots.

Such a beautiful area to fish at. Water was very clear with 20ft+ feet of visibility. Nearly no one else was out on the water too so just the sounds of nature.

I ended up catching 9 bass and one suprise nigoi. Nigoi are only found in freshwater in East Asia. Wife got several bass and a nice sized bluegill in between drinking and relaxing on the boat. Biggest one we caught was 19 inches, but they get as big as 24 inches in this fishery.

Our guide took great care of us. Can’t wait to fish out here again, but probably gonna try our luck at Lake Biwa next time.
