I live in the UK and I will try sea fishing here, but I also fish in Minnesota as I have family there, and also visit SoCal a lot. Will I struggle with a 7' MH fast rod or should I get a surf rod. The one I will probably get is this https://daiwa.us/products/ardito-tr-travel-rods (7') or this one https://daiwa.us/products/ardito-surf-rods?_pos=1&_sid=5c04be5e4&_ss=r (11' surf rod)

  1. I don’t think surf casting with a 7 foot rod sounds fun, but fishing with an 11ft rod on a lake in Minnesota sounds like a worse time.

  2. It really depends on the type of fishing you’re doing. But a 7 M will catch you most fish and be able to cast a reasonable distance

I use a 7’ from boat usually then 10’ from shore with same lures and reel (.5oz-1.25oz, 4000 reel)

  4. for ocean, definitely get the 11′ the extra distance will help you so much. I almost exclusively fish a 14 footer

  5. You probably need to figure out what kind of fishing you actually want to do? Sea fishing in UK is quite varied I use rods from 6’ – 13’ depending on what I’m doing.

For the price of the rod you linked you could get a few rods, leave one in the US and have the most suitable one at each place?
