It’s better for heavier line and better for heavier lures. They are also a bit more accurate. I personally think they are comfier.
For me it was something new to learn, now when I run a jig and scrape bottom I can tell the difference between rock, sand, wood or weeds it’s pretty crazy. But I do prefer to throw weightless stuff on the spin rod. I almost never get a gullet hook on the baitcaster because of the feel from 50lbs braid to 12lbs florocarbon, Its amazing, give it ago. once you get it you’ll love it.
So for me personally I use baitcasters for my heavier applications that need some more strength to get these big fish(frog fishing swim bait fishing) they have more gear ratios as well. I only touch spinning reels for my finesse applications.
Oh yah, frogs man. Frogs what else do I need to say.
Spinning is better
Baitcasters suck to watch on YouTube would much rather hear the 2-stroke like drag a spinning rod lets out fighting a solid fish
Accuracy 🤷♂️
I’ve used spinning reels longer than I have baitcasters myself. Long story short, baitcasters are more accurate as you can use your thumb to stop the lure. For closer proximity, I can pitch my lure twice on a baitcaster before I can even open/pitch/close my bail once with my spinning reel. It’s just a bit more efficient.
accuracy and strength. it takes years to truly master a baitcaster, but once you do, youll loathe using spinning gear. I only use spinning for ultra finesse. Once you’re good enough to be able to skip with a baitcaster, you will literally feel like god.
I use a baitcaster because it’s different, I usually have one spinner and one casting on me at any given time fishing, they’re simply different weapons to attack the bass with.
Sometimes my lure is gonna benefit from the further casting distance and higher gear ratio of my baitcaster, sometimes it’s not, so I use my spinner.
For catfishing though, it’s because I value my hands, I’m not gonna chunk 5oz sinkers all day on a spinning reel, that braid would eat through my fingers.
It comes down to preference in the end. Both rods are good. A spinning rod can be just as accurate if you know what you’re doing. Not as simple as using your thumb to slow down the line but mostly the same. Only thing is make sure you get one that has the reeling crank is on the same side as your spinning rod. There’s way to videos on here with guys switching grips to cast than immediately switching back afterwards. If you reel with your left hand and cast with your right, it should be the same on both styles of reels.
Just put one in your hands and fish with it. You’ll get it.
