So ive been trying to figure out this mono to braid conversion and was wondering why in some instances a reel or rod calls for a smaller braid then what it should be if we're basing it off of diameter comparison. For example if a reel says it can take 6lb mono as its smallest line then the equivalent would be 20lb braid base off of diameter. But instead it says to no go more than 10lb braid. Im guessing it would be do to the drag system not being able to handle a fish of that size… but if im not targeting that size fish and my drag is set correctly would it be fine to put on 20lb braid? That is in order to give me optimal casting distance… im guessing that having a smaller diameter line would make the casting distance suffer… is my thought process correct? Sorry for the lengthy post!
