Rod too weak for pier fishing?

i got this new rod (shoutout to scrubbynuts hes a goat) and its a penn fierce 4. ive read good rhings abt the rell but the rod itself feels really new.
its a medium light 6-12 lbs limit and its REALLY flimsy. (i fish at san franciscos public piers) the rod ive been using is a 9 footer two piece and im worried like. what if i catch a fish and it just explodes on me. i have some hooks (image shown) and i wanna know whats okay for this rod and whats better for my bigger rod. also i want nicknames for these little babys these are my kids now
