Been fishing all my life. Usually caught catfish and crappie with a little bit of bass. Been only fishing bass recently and sometimes it feels like i have no room to set the hook or keep tension when they bite so close to me.

Strip out the line to give you some more room to wear the fish out while keeping tension

Worry about making sure the bass is hooked properly and slowly land the fish. Don’t just reach for the net first thing.

I dont like nets and do not use them. Too many people do not learn how to properly land a bigger bass and just reach for the net IMO.

  3. It just felt too sporadic to me, I get wanting to get the fish in fast, but let it run and tire itself out so you are fighting a very pissed off fish where can run around the side of your kayak. And you can also double up on the hookset with some more distance

  4. A few hard tugs while fighting just to make sure the hook is set will help a lot. I run into this a lot while smallie fishing because they often miss the hook or spit it out if I don’t. Bigger problem on the s aller schoolie bass.
