Today I ended the season in style with some other trout, but the greatest satisfaction was catching a 42cm macrostigma trout, a native species of some Italian waterways but now increasingly rare😞 dominated by Atlantic brown fish populations.

Trout season is an interesting concept to me, we have seasons for most other fish like salmon and various saltwater fish (lingcod, rockfish, halibut), but trout is fair game year round provided the area is open. Catch and release is also mandated on our rivers along with single barbless hook mandates and bait bans.
