I go to estate sales every weekend. Probably two out of four Have setups like this. Just tons of rods and reels laying around in various conditions. What's crazy is there's typically some daiwa or some Shimano reels in the mix, that probably are still top shelf. But you never know how to pick him up and flip them, or if people even buy them…

I buy them, and I use them. No advice on flipping them. There’s not a lot of folks clamoring for vintage fishing gear.
However it’s a cheap entry point to the hobby.
No. They should be giving them to kids.
If you spend enough time on this sub and the fishingforbeginners sub you’ll find that there’s no shortage of people willing to pay top dollar for someone’s 10+ year old well-used gear
Get the penn and the ambassadeur. There is always a market for good quality round reels. Especially now when ambassadeur is no longer made in Sweden.
I sometimes buy them, but not to flip. Usually its for the Ambassadeur like you show there or some other diamond in the rough.
The right Olympic rod, and I’m all in. Looking for certain Montague bamboo fly rods as well.
Yes and no. Some are worth it only to save the cork handles and repurpose to the new garbage plastic handle foam.
Remember old rods were made from different materials and with age they sadly shatter. Normal after 45+ years in the wilds being used.
Some however are, as you say, gold mine big boy old school rods, and the only way to find that out is to grab the lot and sort through them all later on the internets!
Walk in, offer 40$ for everything stating they are old and just for your kids, modern rods are much better etc (be polite) and try to escape with -ALL- rods keeping it under 40 bucks in estate sales.
If you luck out you find some gems and rares, if you get skunked later when checking it was only 40 bucks and you can donate them to happy kids learning to fish (perfect for that)
Good luck hunting!
Most of these are not really desirable. They were budget options when new.
However, there are definitely some gems there. You might have a hard time selling most of them, but the Penn and Abu is worth at least $20 if in working condition.
Hell yes
