I’ve done it many many times. Pat it down and if you happen to have the grease for the reel or some oil (reel oil is literally the same oil they use for shaving clippers) that’s helpful.
But I don’t do it anymore, not because it’s bad for the reel or whatever, I’ve just found backing with braid and then flouro/mono leader is easier, more economical, and 4,000% more manageable

Yes, but you should have soaked the filler spool before filling your spool.
