So I'm learning more about fly fishing and just came to the understanding today while trying to figure out what the big deal was with tippet, that they use fancy/funky tapered leader tied to their main line and then tippet tied to that to avoid cutting down their expensive tapered leader.
Sometimes they'll tie a line to line knot like a blood knot, other times they'll use something id never heard of called a tippet ring. It's basically a smooth welded shut ring they tie to their leader and then tippet to that ring so they can tie quicker / easier knots instead of line to line knots.
Has anyone thought about or tried this? What are some advantages/disavantages you guys can think of.

I don’t use it for braid to leader, but leader to tippet. For spinning, it’ll just be extended leader so that the braid to leader knots last longer due to constant tying of lures.
Another method I use is very very small swivel snaps for quick lures that doesn’t require direct line.
The less the better as it’ll break somewhere when knots/ring/swivel are introduced
