I usually use straight floro on my spinning reels, I have seen a lot of people recommending braid for spinning reels. Is there any reason why I should change and go with braid? This reel will be used primarily for soft plastic-drop shots, shaky head, Texas rig…

  1. Braid is much better at detecting strikes. The only situation I would hesitate to use it is in extremely clear water.

I tried braid for my finesse spinning setups and regret it. I would go to 10lb fluro.

  3. If you like straight fluorocarbon and it works for you, I’d say send it if that is what you most like.

That said, I like braid a lot and I like it for finesse. Casting distance is outstanding, bite detection is great, longevity is solid, hook setting power is higher than with mono/fluoro, and you can use a leader for lower visibility and a longer leader to introduce a limited amount of stretch for use with treble hooks. There’s a ton of variation in braid quality, so your experience will depend on this. Pair a great braid with a great reel like that and I think you will love it.
