Unfortunately I haven’t landed a carp yet, but I’ve got several catfish so far. I didn’t realize they liked boilies just as much as carp. Caught this guy on a Supa fruit 15mm wafter.

I did hook into what I think was a carp last weekend. Unfortunately I couldn’t finish the job. I think I had two issues- small poor quality hooks , and I was running straight braid. I have since upgraded my hooks, and switched to mono. I read somewhere that carp that feed off a rocky bottom may have tougher lips, so I want to make sure I am getting a firm hook hold.

I also upgrade my rod and reel to the Daiwa Black widow 4500 with 10 ft 3.5 lb tc. What a difference it makes for fighting fish. It handled the 7.5 catfish with ease.

I mostly resolved my snag issues by using a slip float with a stop knot to keep me off the bottom. Problem is there are lots of boats at times, and it also led to a major tangle after fighting my first fish. So now I’m just risking it, but I’ve seemed to find a spot with fewer snags, and I also reel in much faster than before. Which seems to help immensely (duh).

Thanks for reading!

Have a great weekend!
