Pics may not do it perfect justice, but I’ve been struggling in this spot. There’s bass here, you see them breaking the surface all the time and there’s a ton of small panfish for food.
The problem, it’s just so dense with vegetation. Even tossing a Texas rig work brings in a salad bar with it.
Obviously a top water frog can and does work, but the bass aren’t always looking for food on top. And these pics were taken this weekend, when much of the vegetation is starting to die back.

  1. With a rake! 🤣

I fish retention ponds with a ton of surface vegetation and honestly, I fish it the same way you are. Frog or T-rigged weightless creature across the top to start then a weighted T-rigged senko or creature bait to punch through. You’re gonna end up pulling in a lot of salad when you punch through and I know it’s annoying but man when it pays off it pays big.
