Buddies and I having a debate about whether they are rainbow or steel head. Caught these guys in British Columbia. They were in alpine lakes moving toward the ocean. Used dry flies. Fun spot either way.

First one is a coastal cutthroat. The others are rainbows/steelhead.

Yet another coastal cutthroat
First is 100% a cutty, the others are rainbows. Rainbows and steelhead are the same thing, you call em steelhead when they hit the salt

Rainbow trouts and steelhead are the same species, just with different lifestyle decisions. Steelhead go to the sea to feed whereas rainbows stay in the river. These trout are adults and would have already left for the sea if they were “steelhead,” but they’re much too small to be returning from the sea. So they’re just resident rainbows.

It’s a Coastal Cutthroat that doesn’t belong on rocks. Others are Rainbows.
