I am an adult getting back into fishing and I have virtually zero knowledge. I live in Northern California and will be fishing in sloughs that contain striped bass, sturgeon, catfish, and I believe other species as well including bass.
This is my current setup.
7ft rod medium action
5.1:1 spinning reel
15lb braid
I was told I should maybe use stronger line, also was told it should be okay. Just wondering if this setup is good for catching fish where I’m at

That setup will work for bass and catfish no problem. I think if you’re gonna try to target Sturgeon, I would definitely get a reel with more capacity than that. But as far as getting back into it, that’s a great rig.
